BD The Malibous

The Malibous

The Malibous were founded in 1964 in Fort Payne, Alabama, by brothers Mike and Tony Goggans. They were later joined by younger sisters Jan (O’Dell) and Susan (Bolding), along with North Carolina native and vocalist Brenda Kay (James). From performing around their Lookout Mountain community, the Malibous grew into a popular touring band whose career took them from local dances, theaters, and festivals to venues along the Eastern Seaboard—from Miami, Florida, to Albany, New York. Highlights included serving as the house band at the renowned Bowery in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and multiple performances for U.S. military personnel at Thule Air Force Base (now Pituffik Space Base) in Greenland.

Throughout their career, the Malibous shared the stage with—or served as the backup band for—artists including Sam & Dave, Dr. Hook, Freddie Cannon, The Dixie Cups, and many others. Now, more than sixty years later, the Malibous’ legacy lives on through family, friends, and the music that first brought them together.
